Ms. Kottke is a Senior Litigator for the Districts of Guam and the NMI. She began her career in criminal defense in 2005 as a paralegal with the Montana State Public Defender’s Office after working for the United States Senate Committee on Finance in Washington, DC. In 2008, Ms. Kottke attended the University of Montana School of Law where she graduated with honors and an emphasis in criminal defense in 2011. During law school, she interned with the Federal Public Defender’s Office in Montana and was a member of the Criminal Defense Clinic, where her passion for indigent criminal defense was reaffirmed. She is a published author on the subject of government cell phone location tracking and privacy implications of the same.
After law school, Ms. Kottke clerked for Justice Jim Rice of the Montana Supreme Court. She then became an associate attorney with a private criminal defense firm in Missoula, Montana, where she practiced exclusively criminal defense. In 2015, Ms. Kottke started her own criminal defense law firm in Missoula, Montana. She provided indigent defense for clients in both state and federal court through a contract with the Montana State Public Defender’s Office and the CJA panel. In addition to indigent defense, she continued practicing private criminal defense in the following areas: drug possession/distribution/manufacturing, various types of assaults, homicide, rape, child pornography and child sexual abuse, revocation of supervision, fraud and embezzlement, felon in possession, firearms, and charges relating to medical and recreational marijuana in the federal system. She has practiced before the Federal District Courts of Guam, Montana, and Wyoming, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals – having been selected for oral argument twice, the United States Supreme Court, and the Montana State District and Supreme Courts including many and varied local courts and courts of limited jurisdiction.
